Join The NewsgroupSilver Wheels Cycling Club uses a newsgroup, or listserve, process for maintaining frequent communication among members of the club. The way this works is that whenever a member needs to communicate with the club as a whole, this can be done by sending an email through the newsgroup and all who are subscribed to it will receive the message.
Our current system is actually a remnant of a previous system we have since dropped, but we have kept the newsgroup system so we can continue communication among members. This process may change in the near future but for now it is what we have.
To subscribe to the newsgroup send an email to Tom Weber, who monitors the group. Tom's email address is:
spiderfolks@verizon.net. Tom will go through the subscription process for you and then you will receive a confirmation email from the service that operates the newsgroup. This email will come from kundenserver.de and may very likely end up in your junk mail. Tom will work with you diligently to get you subscribed - some systems seem to take longer than others.
A newsgroup depends on a certain amount of email etiquette in order fo it to be effective. Here are some general guidelines for its use:
1. Its main purpose is for sending a message to the entire group - not for a discussion among a few members.
2. Once a message is received and an answer or reply is necessary, the reply should be to the sender directly,
NOT by using the REPLY or REPLY TOALL options.
3. When the REPLY option is used, the replying message goes back out to all who are on the list - most of whom may have no interest in the topic, and certainly not in the reply.
4. There are a few exceptions to the reply guide but mostly just don't do it. Send your answer directly to the sender - not the entire group.
5. Persons abusing the newsgroup may be removed from the list.
